Booking an Accessible Cruise on the Disney Wish

The Disney Wish is the newest ship in their fleet, and I am excited to go check it out.

While looking at the itineraries, I noticed a few new choices being asked or offered. Right from the start, there is the usual option if I need an accessible cabin. Once I click that option, it shows a new window not offered on the other ships.
This window asks what kind of assistance you need; mobility, communication, or both. This is a great addition; on the other ships, they have kits for communication needs, but on the Wish, the cabins are set up for them already. One of the complex parts of cruising or traveling is inventory; there is a limited number of accessible cabins, rooms, taxis, etc. So having cabins designed for particular needs makes it easier to get the best cabin for you.

While talking to the Special Needs Department at Disney Cruise Line, they informed me that a couple of cabins have trundle beds instead of traditional bunk beds. This would be an excellent option for those that want to use a Hoyer lift while on board while sleeping on the couch. Since my son is the one that needs the assistance, this would be ideal for us; that way, I could sleep in the big bed, and he could sleep on the couch bed. There are only 2 of these types of accessible cabins offered as of right now, category 9D – staterooms 6006 & 6504. Unfortunately, they are both booked, but I will keep this in mind. This trundle bed option seemed to be popular, and I was informed that they are looking into adding more to other ships.
